ABOUT US

Brigus SeaSalt & Thyme is an exquisite retreat destination nestled within the historic seaport of Brigus, Newfoundland. Just an hour drive from St. John’s, this charming town is best known as the birth place of famed arctic explorer Bob Bartlett and has long been recognized as the original ‘Gateway to the North’. Home of the very popular, annual Blueberry Festival, Brigus attracts thousands of visitors annually. We invite you to explore the Town and the tranquility and beauty it has to offer, which makes Brigus SeaSalt & Thyme the perfect escape.

OUR HISTORY

SEASALT and THYME was once The Convent of Mercy, built in 1860 for the Mercy Sisters who came from Ireland in 1861. From 1861 up to 1991 a large number of Sisters of Mercy were stationed in Brigus and lived at the Convent. Since that time the design team and architects  with great care and creativity have reworked the space restoring its original character and architectural style.
